So. Let us figure this out. First, a date. Now we have to have it this semester. Should we have it inside or outside? I think inside would be nice since we have a nice field. But we'd need to get it for longer than 2 hours. So I'll work on that once we figure out a date. What about December 5th. We already have the field for 2 hours so it probably wouldn't be that much harder to get more time.
I'll work on that.
Now, we need to plan out the battles & such. I think a themed event would be nice, easier to plan & more exciting.
So ideas on battles & theme?

The following ideas aren't too conducive for indoor play, unless the arena is huge.
I would prefer outdoors. Granted I've never played indoors, so maybe it's not that horrible.
What themes have been done? Zombies sticks out to me. But it has been done before. But if it's fun, why not?
Bridge Demolition One side is attempting to destroy a massive bridge (80 – 100 ft long) by dropping tennis balls into buckets placed along the bridge. They have an allotment of sappers (3-5) and they have a limited number of rez’s (3-5). Side A with the sappers, achieve victory when all the tennis balls have been dropped into the bucket and the leader “flips the switch”. Side B achieves victory when they defeat Side A’s leader.
Artillery & Castle Walls One side attempts to destroy castle walls the other team possesses. There are a number of “Catapults” (whether they are homebuilt ballista, catapults/trebuchets, or people launching kick balls) that can destroy castle walls with 1-2 solid hits. Catapults must be set up at the beginning of the siege and can only move if someone else assists them. Catapults are destructible through 4 solid hits from blue or red weapons, or 2 hits to a shield they are holding from a red weapon, or dropping a tennis ball into a bucket besides the catapult. Besides the walls and siege engine rules, either side has a king to defend.
Ship Battle Two teams have a selection of boats (pvc poles attached in a square formation with line) with which the attempt to sink or disable their enemies ships and attack the opposing fort. 2 people must hold the ship at waist height and the remaining crew can attack rivals and rival ships. Should a navigator/admiral/captain be killed, s/he must stay in the confines of the ship and someone else must take command of the vessel. Until someone else takes command, the ship is immobilized. If a ship no longer has anyone to pilot it, it is sunk, removed from the field and the crew re-spawns at their fort. First team to sink all enemy ships or destroy their enemy’s fort wins.

my game play is more designed for the turf field, using the football yard lines as checkpoint for rez

Would the "rez lines" be based on how many points have been acquired? Or what might be the circumstance?

Well, i thought of this this morning... but I was thinking of kind of a line battle in a ridge. kinda like the Battle of Thermopylae.. only the other team doesnt have only single blue.
It would be 2 teams (Maybe equal), fighting on cliffs designated by ropes. one team is the advancing team, the others defending. Advancing team doesnt have rez, but if they advance 5 yards, then they get one. Something to that nature.

So post all your ideas here and then during our practices, we can try them out! All the ideas posted so far are really interesting. Faruq, I like your tennis ball ideas. Makes it a lot easier to know when something is destroyed. Kyle, I dislike that battle, Thermopylae, but yours sounds interesting.

It might cost a pretty penny to get some of the stuff I mentioned, specifically. I know Mittelmarch has a realm dues every year. Do you think we can set up a realm DONATION to fund some of these and potential projects? (portable walls, ballista, etc.)

Most realms actually don't have walls and artillery items, some of us made some for ourselves or units and normally loan it out to others. The big problem with realm equipment is who stores it and what happens if they leave the realm etc.....
Examples of make do stuff, straw bales for walls, or we built walls out of cloth and plastic fence post, javvies work as balistaes in a pinch, large plastic balls thrown by hand from a circle represent catapults and so on. Talk to older dag players about what they have done or seen.

I remember Mittelmarch used the ball-thrown-from-a-circle method for catapults a few summers ago. And just marked off castle walls with a rope. That's what we've done for stuff here before. Like the spiral-y tower things when we did capture the flag for the Northern Steppes visit

Yeah. Where can we get hay bales? That could work. Or the fabric thing. That'd be cool too!

So I had some ideas at work.
Nichtmar proposed a "Thieves vs. Bounty Hunters" (I think is what it was called.) At least this is where I'm getting my variant from.
So we divide teams. Each team selects a "jailor/warden". The goal is to capture the opposing team. Once the entire team is captured, victory is achieved.
Instead of 2 loss limbs equaling death, you have an alternative. 3 limbs lost means capture and 4 limbs equals death (body shots still count as death)
Once someone is "capture" they are taken to the jail where they sit being baby-sat by the jailor. They sit and sit until someone comes and kills the jailor (at which point everyone is free and must run to the rez point to be back into the fight, jailor too gets to rez as well.) Or someone who is jailed calls "JAIL BREAK" and they all kill the warden and run to rez to fight again. Jailbreak can be called only once in the game by each team.
You can even negotiate ransoms. Say I want Mr. Red Guy and I don't care if you have your two florentine dudes back I can let you know and we handshake on letting them go. They have to go back to rez like normal. === === === The other idea is... We start out with a game type like normal: ring the bell, kings, capture the flag, whatever. AND THEN WE START THINKING WITH PORTALS!
So basically we have a field with a rez, maybe an objective, and a tele-porter. Yes. A gosh-darn teleporter. So we all know how everything else works, what about a teleporter? The teleporter entrance is marked with neon green or neon orange tape/fabric. The corresponding Teleporter Exit is a herald with a matching headband. The teleport herald can move about the field in random patterns.
When someone enters the teleporter they must go to that corresponding teleport herald as quickly as possible, without getting in any way of combat, they are out of combat until they reach the teleport herald (signified by putting weapons above head) once they reach a STATIONARY teleport herald, they say "3 2 1 alive" and resume play. If a teleport herald is MOVING the fighters must move with the teleport herald (with weapons on head and avoid being an obstacle for missiles) until s/he stops and the fighters say "3 2 1 alive"s like normal.

"Medieval Football" It's fairly simply. Normal footbal rules + normal dagorhir rules. Exception: no tackling. Downing someone could just be as simple as chopping off both legs.
"Tanks" So it's a modified stand and deliver (could be modified for any game type really). One team has the tank. The tank is a hula-hoop around an archer. And grabbing onto the hula-hoop are people holding shields. Their goal is to eliminate the opposing team. The shield men can block shots for the archer, but once their shield is broken they are no longer effective (i.e. no meat shield).
The other team is a conglomerate of weapons except missiles and shields. Their goal is to disable the tank. The tank is disabled when the archer is killed/maimed (to the point of no longer being able to use the bow).

What about something like a large scale bridge battle, but have the ship idea too. One sided CtF, Kinda like a siege of a city.
