What about having some kind of tournament? We could divide it up by weapon type (single blue, red, florentine, etc.). You choose one weapon style you want to fight with and we set up a bracket for each one. Eventually, we get a winner for each weapon. Then perhaps we could do an overall champ by having those winners fight or doing another tournament where you can choose your weaponry

Addition to the tournament idea: The first time we host this tournament we choose the best fighters in each weapon type to act as a sort of "final challenge." That is, the winner of the tournament will go on to fight them and be named Grand Champion at X or something. And then next time we host the tournament, the previous Grand Champ will be the final challenge and it keeps going on like that.
If we did this, would we want to have a trophy or something like that for the winners?

What you're describing is this... www.mittelmarch.com/olympics.htmI was thinking we have Olympics without being Olympics like.. A bracketed tournament, but have the challenges just be ridiculous and torturous. Like instead of so much them choosing what they go into the challenge, it is pre-determined or the audience selects the weapons set up. And various challenges that include running, maybe obstacle courses (in addition to killing your opponent), etc.

I don't think tournies are such a good idea if we're going to be fighting inside. That's more for outside events. WE can think of that for our spring event.

If it is something that people are interested, how much time do you think so be dedicated to planning said event? Or the games involved? Like how I described it, each fight could be completely different from the next two people over in the same bracket! Or would that just be too complicated and potentially unfun for a majority?

Having never been to the Olympics, I didn't realize how close I was to describing them.
I do like your idea about having more varied games/events. That way we aren't stealing the idea from someone else and it'll be different each time, making it (hopefully) less boring.

Maybe in my speculation Olympics is exactly what I described and not fight in brackets with specific weapon types--Go! Lol.

don't worry about "stealing" someones idea. We just had Rag 25, somebody somewhere has already done just about anything you can come up with so just do what sounds like fun for you and your friends.

Not to beat a dead horse, has a theme/games been decided?
I think the early we post about when this event is scheduled and that sort of thing we could have a better turn out (people planning for it and stuff)
Then we post in Mittelmarch, Northern Steppes, Kanthea, and the other places around Muncie to come!

Mittelmarch ran an awesome game in the woods a couple of weeks ago. I think we get a version ourselves.
We divide all the fighters into 3 teams (1 NPC team). We have Adventure Party 1 and 2, and then Bad Guy Team. We hand all the fighters a set amount of "coins".
The goal is to get more coins at the end of the event than the other team. There are multiple ways to earn coins: -Kill a member of the enemy adventuring party. [Worth 1 coin.] -Kill a member of the bad guy team. [Worth 1 coin.] -Complete quests. [Variable.]
Quests you say? This is where the NPC team and the bad guy team come into play. The NPC team moderates missions for each side to do. Sure the adventurers wander around, fight each other, but they also may have to rescue somebody from Orcs. They fight the orcs, get a coin for each kill, and then the mission giver hands over a hefty reward for saving their friend. Maybe the next mission is a dragon(s), or a goblin fortress that must be vanquished. It will probably feel a lot like D&D.
The NPC teams plays an important role too. They function as healers, merchants, and mercenaries.
Healers: -Can restore lost limbs. -Make rez times 10 count as opposed to 300 count.
Merchants: -Make weapons red damage. (for a set time) -Make indestructible shields. (for a set time) -Items that you can carry with you to restore limbs/life "potions of cure". (this will have to be limited and more expensive than the healer)
Mercenaries: -Follow adventure parties around for a set time limit (5 minutes) -Adventurers can lengthen this time by paying the merc at then end of their tenure.
Other things to mention... -No set rez points. Just count to 300 on your honor. -NPCs moderate/herald/and perform their "Class" responsibilities. -(If I think of anything, I'll edit it later. Feel free to add.) -In addition to "Traveling Merchants/Mercs/Doctors", we have a central bazaar in the middle of the playing field. -"Robbing": At any point merchants can be mugged/robbed. They can only be robbed by someone wielding a single dagger. If the merchant is killed he forfeits X amount of coins and can give X amount of items if s/he has any. If the merchant survives the attack s/he will not trade with that party until s/he rezzes or x amount of time passes. Impervious to all other weapons. (Mercernaries are still vulnerable to attacks from enemy adventure parties when in the employ of an adventuring party)
Sample Missions: --Kill all the "goblins" at their hideout.
--An assassin has escaped and is hiding, bring him to justice-- dead or alive. (Worth more alive, half reward for killing him.)
--A thief has stolen many valuables from the baron's coffers, find the thief and find the treasure! (Thief has some coins on him, he has a trail that has valuables, and the mission giver gives additional reward)
--A caravan requires an escort through a well-known orc raiding party territory. (Point A to Point B, caravan can be "robbed")
--Peasants need assistance building a fortification while orcs attack. (build a "fortress" using rope and shields to form walls while "orcs" continually attack their position)
--Destroy the evil knights' castle by laying explosive on their outer walls (drop tennis balls in buckets around the walls. The evil knights may have siege weapons)
--The governer's child has been kidnapped! Save her/him before they are eaten by orcs! (Find and rescue with a time limit.)
