Hello, i am the unit leader of the Richmond Indiana unit, Greyridge, out of the Corvalin chapter.
I was directed to your boards because you are based around the college campus. im looking to make a "student club" at Indiana University East, and i wanted to ask you guys how you went about making yours, any hitches you got caught on, recruiting strategys, ect. and, seeing as how you guys are about the same distance away as my chapter, i might drop in with some of the core of the unit for some socializing and practice.

Which ever works for you better. Wednesday at 3 and Saturday at 2. On Ball State's Campus, "University green", near Shafer Tower. We can offer better directions but.. Yeah. Ematai is the administrator, so she's pretty much in charge.

Weds usually have far better attendance to answer your questions This. I'm looking to make a "student club" at Indiana University East, and i wanted to ask you guys how you went about making yours, any hitches you got caught on, recruiting strategys, ect. Stormhaven: A brief history from the point of view of someone who is barely aware of what's going on. Stormhaven was started a number of years ago at Ball State, and from what I understand, the original group split up after irreconcilable differences or something to that effect. A number of years later, a bunch of people who would go on to re-start Dag here were playing a more-or-less unrelated game. One individual who used to play some form of boffer sword fighting used a a blue sword as a flagpole, and Ematai saw it was was like "omg Dag? I fuckin' LOVE dag. Someone should start that shit" and when everyone said "yeah, pretty much would rather not be in charge of that" she, with the help of a few others, started it up. Now, Dagorhir at Ball State is presently run through a parent organization called Urban Gaming League, so getting Dag started at our school was a relatively simple thing. Urban Gaming League was already an official student organization, so it was simply a matter of this organization saying "you know what? This is a game we sponsor now." We had to deal with so legal stuff (mostly getting everyone to sign a waiver). But more or less, we didn't have to deal with all that much in terms of starting at Ball State and getting our school administration's okay (at least as far as I'm aware. Seriously, I'm just a random guy who had very little to do with any of this, other then being around to see/hear about it). As for recruitment, the best way to advertise is to play is as public of a place as you possibly can, near high-traffic areas. Put up a sign that implies that more or less anyone is welcome and you're good to go. It helps if your chapter has weapons it can make available to people that don't have them. You also may want to try the traditional, tried-and-true method of signs, callout meetings, ect. You don't have an already existing group to help you out with initial recruitment and meeting people in your target demographic the way we did, so it's not going to be easy. The hardest thing about starting Dag at a school is going to be reconciling the fact that you're a student organization, and the expectations that schools have of student organizations; with Dag as a national organization, which I've found to be absurdly resolute in the way things are supposed to be done. Anyways, I hope you find what I've written to be accurate and helpful. Best of luck!
