I am slightly enamored with the idea of a Crown War.
I mean, we have so many Medieval Re-enactment games that have one or a variant of it.
I think that should we have one we could potentially have a huge turn out (like Miligeddon 4) and decide on a "face" for Stormhaven. I'll explain why we could have a big turn out (at least for first Crown War)
Let me give you all my thoughts on this first.
In trying to get on par with the other realms, I do think we need a king/leader/whatever. This office is really an RP title. The BSU Dag Administration and Moderators have their importance and duties, which I think could be incorporated as a High Council in the field of RP. So we could have a two-house government system: High Council (elected by UGL) and a King (nominated by UGL and Non-UGL Stormhaveners)
The basic set up would include:
Nominations or Applications
*Nominated for exemplary qualities of King (Good sportsmanship, safe on field, knowledge
of rules, well-liked)
-Nominations are open to anyone in UGL who wishes to keep Dag fun and open for
folks wanting to play. Only legitimate nominations (from UGL) will count.
*Applications may be submitted in lieu of Nominations for those who do want Stormhaven
and UGL Dagorhir to thrive. They also feel they would be a good candidate based on
aforementioned qualities they possess.
-The application would have to include their basic information, contact information,
why s/he believes s/he should be selected.
*High Council Members (Admin + Mods) would be prohibited from being nominated or
applying for king. They would continue their office, cast votes, and nominate kings.
Voting
*Voting would occur after a set amount of time after applications and nominations have
been completed. (1-2 weeks for application entry?)
*Voting is set up for an additional set time frame (1-2 weeks) to elect a king with a twist.
*Depending on what the response is, a king is not decided at the end of voting. The votes
are there to show what kind of peasant support, military backing, etc. that king may
have. (If Jimmy gets 10 votes, Sally gets 5, and Ben gets 2 they may have 10
soldiers, 5 soldiers, 2 soldiers respectively to fight in the Crown War)
The Crown War
*The Crown War is then set up. We divide up armies at start time in lieu of what kind of
votes each king-candidate received.
-The reason I mention this Voter-Concripted Army is to avoid a rule of only the best
players EVAR. I don't mean to say that competitive players don't know how to fairly
hold office, but it could end up being only the same person over and over again based
on ABILITY and not SPORTSMANSHIP, SAFETY, KNOWLEDGE, and CHARISMA. If the
voting system is kept and the armies are organized based on votes, I mean, the leader
has already selected popularly!
*Headbands signifying allegiance can be issued to avoid confusion.
*High Council decides what kind of games are played at the Crown War with
consideration to RP battles and likely battles fought by kings.
-Council members may opt to HERALD, TEST, or perform non-combat duties if they
wish or delegate those to non-players or fighters (with experience in these duties).
*After an epic, cataclysmic, and decisive battle...A KING IS DECLARED!
Coronation
*The Coronation would be done by a league of Veterans (potentially), Extra-Realm Kings,
and Stormhaven's Council.
*An oath is to be declared by our king to defend and justly rule Stormhaven!
*Then we all have a great celebration!
*Things can be added such as handing of props (a crown, a sword fit for a king, a standard
or sash, etc.)
Feast
*We attend after the festivities a meal dressed in our finest garb.
*Everyone pitches in for a sit-down meal some where. (Parks often have the shelters)
-In the event information we let everyone know to RSVP (so we know how much food is
expected to be consumed.) and either bring a dish to feed a few people or money to
compensate those who cooked or bought food.
King 101
*Work with High Council on Dagorhir projects
-Either UGL administrative (as delegated by the Council) or RP events to continue
Stormhaven's legacy.
*Appear and represent Stormhaven at events, battles, and feasts.
*Promote Dagorhir at Stormhaven and promote inter-realm events, practices, etc.
*King reigns for 1 year, until the next Crown War is declared.
-Unless s/he is found to be unfit in his duties and is deposed by the Council and/or the
Stormhaven masses.
-Abdicates the throne.
-(In Darkon a second Crown War can be called to challenge reigning king but only once,
and by a prospective king candidate, maybe this as well?)
In the RP sector, right now Mittelmarch is looking to advance their story. We could get our allies and friends to come fight with us because:
1.) It's Dag and events are reasons to get out and fight.
2.) They don't want someone who will be hostile to their realm to become king!
3.) Food. Everybody loves food.
